“Childhood” is an amazing place to be in. You can create characters, you can go places and you can literally be anything you let yourself be. It’s a place that to truly enjoy being there, you must be a child. Parents can’t go “there“. They can only stand back and be amazed at what a wondrous place it is and vaguely remember their days of spending time in childhood land. As a photographer, it’s truly a dream when you can sit back and be a tiny part of their world and capture the few seconds, that they let you in. All too quickly, the door will shut as they go back into their world. All I can say is “thank you” for letting me visit JJ.

Behind the Scenes {Baby Eliana: 5 days}

We have had several newborns this week, however; we decided that it would be super fun to have our new intern Alex shoot behind the scenes. We have tons of pullbacks from this great session and will post more, but in the meantime here is a quick sneak peak at the making of this image. We always try and tell our clients, to just relax and let us handle the children. You can see in this photos that it takes a team, but we always get the shot! All you need is some time….and a lollipop or two!

Parenting OC Cover {OC Housewife Celeb Heather Dubrow}

For three years I have been shooting the cover for OC Parenting. I have photographed three of the OC Housewives, with the latest being Heather Dubrow. For almost 13 years I have been photographing people of all ages on a professional level and one thing is the same across the board….we all want to be great Mothers or Fathers, and raise great children. Whether you are a celebrity Mother or one that is not so famous, we are all universally trying to accomplish the same thing – a future with well behaved, and respected people. It’s a tall order. In between the sippy cups, diaper changes and struggles with bedtime, we also need to make sure we take care of us and serve our needs so we in turn can be better Moms. I loved meeting Heather and her beautiful children. Yes she lives in a nice big house, but honestly once you get inside it’s not too different from anywhere else. Everything was very normal and her kids are just that – kids. Kids who respond to bubbles and tickles just like the other kids who are in not so big houses. They had lots of wonderful energy and were super easy to photograph. Heather of course is easy on the eyes, and makes my job seriously all too simple. So I thank Heather for allowing us into her ever so lovely home and allowing me the privilege of capturing a tiny glimpse of her family.

A Clients Home {Ms. T}

Continuing on my journey of making the rounds to my clients home, I was especially thrilled to see this amazing wall. This client started coming to me day one with both of her children and paved her way through two baby plans. Each time, she ordered one frame for her wall, until bit by bit - VOILA – this is the result. What I love about this is the patience and dedication that it took to create this wall. When I saw it, it was more then a “wall”. It was countless photo sessions, smiles and giggles, hours of car rides and “clothing” discussions…all just whispers behind this wonderful collection of family moments. I truly just stood there in awe of this amazing accomplishment for this family. They have made it a priority to show their children how important they are to creating a “home” and to that I thank them for allowing me to be a small part of it.

I also love that Ms. T took my advice and proudly hangs images in her bathroom. I always have had photos in my bathroom and when the images are framed, they are sealed in tight, so there is no worry of moisture. How fun are these silhouettes to see every day! Throughout the house were also fun frames, and the little piggies all framed as well.

I know how overwhelming it is to decide on photos. It’s one thing to actually get to the photo session and all that that entails! Then to decide on the best ones to print….truly a challenge. I always tell clients to think of what is “wall worthy”. What do you just LOVE and want to see every day. Those are the ones you start with and then you can put the rest in little cute frames, books or storage. Keeping little prints around the house are also super important for those all too last minute school projects. You know the ones, that require photos of everyone in the family, and you are scrambling thru the junk drawer for anything in printed form?! Yet everything is on CD so you pop open the computer to try and print and your printer runs out of ink? I mean seriously, how hard can it be. LOL

The idea is to do little by little. Print one here, print one there – or dedicate a day and just work on a wall. I promise you it will be one of the most satisfying things on the planet that you can do, and the feeling even outweighs buying a new pair of shoes!

I say this all the time, but life is short. As I pluck the gray hairs out of my own head I am realizing it is getting shorter and shorter. Please do not wait for the perfect family photo to hang your images. Do not wait to loose those last “10 Pounds”. Live life now! Enjoy it…when else are you going to be able to?

So to Ms. T and her family, thank you, thank you, thank you!

A Clients Home {Ms. C}

Quite a bit of time ago, this client came in for another session and mentioned that she had this nice large wall that needed images. She had had a previous beach session with me, but we decided on going to the park so her family could roam around and we could really capture who they were. She has two adorable boys who love to climb and of course, a very well behaved dog. When it was time to go over all of her images, we had measurements of the wall and were able to diagram out a wall of canvases. Flash forward to now, when on one of my client roaming days I was able to go in and visit her.

I literally gasped when I saw how amazing this wall looked. She had painted the walls just for these canvases and had labored over the design and layout of the room. On the opposite wall is a huge window that overlooks their backyard, and the light that floods the room is truly a delight. This room is opposite of their kitchen, and clearly it’s a place where they spend a lot of time.

What’s great about walls like this is that over time you can swap out canvases, or move them around the house. This was truly an investment and one that I know she is proud to have made.

Our mini books are hands down one of our clients favorite items. They come in paks of 3 and these little cuties are not only the best thing you can take out of your purse, but they are also magnetic. Grandparents love them, Mamas can brag about them and Men love the price and size of them!
